On the Farm - An update

After one of the wettest winters on record, the fields are eventually beginning to dry enough to allow us to start our spring sowing. This year we are growing a variety of Spring Barley called Concertto, this is grown for the malting market (to make whisky).

Once we have finished our sowing the next job is to plant the potatoes. The variety that will be planted is called Rooster, which is a good all round potato and is good for boiling, mashing and chips. If you are looking for them in the supermarkets they are a red potato.

Hopefully when visiting the Adventure Park you will see all sorts of activity in the fields surrounding the park, sowing, rolling, fertiliser spreading, spraying, grubbing, ridging, bed tilling, planting etc

I hope lots of you will manage to come to our Tractor Ted weekend on the 10th and 11th May, where you will get a chance to see real farmers at work. We will be showing you how to wrap hay bales, shear sheep and will be putting on a JCB demonstration, along with lots of new New Holland tractors, a combine , telehandler and a variety of vintage tractors.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon, and don't be afraid to ask what is happening on the farm at the time of your visit.
