Farm Education
On the Farm
PHEW!! got there after an extremely difficult year the last of the potatoes were eventually lifted on 28th October. The conditions were certainly the worst that we have ever experienced both for the cereal harvest and the potato lifting Combines, tractors& trailers, potato harvesters etc were sinking in very boggy wet fields.
As a result of the mess we have left a lot of the fields in, we have been unable to sow much winter wheat this year and we are now praying for a dry winter to allow us all to get the fields cultivated and ploughed in time for spring.
Over the winter months we keep ourselves busy with winter maintenance, ploughing, repairing broken drains ( from the heavy machinery sinking in the fields and breaking them), and keeping a watchful eye on the ever increasing numbers of geese that seem to be coming to this area. The geese love the newly sown winter crops and will happily graze away unless you keep moving them on, they can certainly make a mess of your crops with their big webbed feet.
We will update you on progress on the farm periodically, but lets hope we have a Summer next year, both for the Adventure Park and the Farm.
Hope You ALL HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS & ALL THE BEST FOR 2012
KERR
